As Luna’s retirement journey begins, we want to take a moment to reflect on his incredible impact on the Andree family and the many lives he has touched. Luna’s story is one of growth, joy, and unshakable devotion, not just to his handler, Chatham, but to everyone he met along the way.

The Andree family, from North County San Diego, has had the privilege of experiencing Luna’s support firsthand. For years, Luna has been a constant companion, offering not only physical assistance but also emotional support to Chatham. Through middle and high school, Luna was there every step of the way, always steady, calm, and reliable.
Luna’s mom shared, “Cannot thank you enough for helping us on this journey! We made it! Chatham finished high school and plans to continuing to study language arts. Super Luna has been with us all through middle and high school. He has been a rock star the entire time.” Luna was a constant presence in Chatham’s life, and his dedication has made all the difference in their journey.

Luna was more than just a service dog—he became a true ambassador for Good Dog! Everywhere the Andree family went, Luna’s presence was a reminder of the bond between a service dog and their handler. “He was the perfect ambassador for Good Dog! Everywhere we went, we were so proud of Chatham introducing him to people,” Luna’s mom reflected. From visits to restaurants to hiking trails, Luna left a lasting impression on everyone they met.
The Andree family celebrated Luna’s service with an unforgettable retirement trip. They traveled across the country, from Zion to Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, the Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole, and Park City. Luna, ever the professional, was calm and collected no matter the sights or sounds around him. “Luna rode buses, trams, and gondolas. He did not say boo to the bison nor the elk (though Chatham was terrified, he eventually got calm),” Luna’s mom shared. Even with the challenges of travel, Luna remained steadfast, showing his calm nature in the face of new experiences.
The Andree family made sure to give Luna the best retirement adventure, even stopping in Las Vegas and reaching 10,000 feet on their travels. “It was too hot to stop in Vegas for the Welcome to Vegas sign,” she noted with a smile. And while the family was offered a chance to explore Yellowstone’s thermal features, Luna’s mom made sure to prioritize his comfort. “The Rangers at Yellowstone were particularly impressed and told us it was fine to go down to the thermal features, but I did not. Only if we could be above them—would not put him through that.”
Reflecting on Luna’s journey, his mom said, “It was a blessing for us to meet you and Rick when we did. Thanks, Laura! Thanks, Rick, and the Good Dog team!” We, too, are incredibly grateful for the chance to be part of Luna’s amazing journey and for the impact he has had on the Andree family.
Luna’s story is one of resilience, service, and the special bond between a service dog and their handler. His unwavering support has left a lasting legacy, and we are so proud of everything he has accomplished.
Thank you, Luna, for your years of service and for being part of the Good Dog! family. We wish you all the best in your well-deserved retirement.
